Adoption Day at Atwood's Feb. 10th February 6, 2007

If you're looking to add a furry member to your family and will be in the Kilgore area on Saturday, February 10th, stop by Atwood's on Hwy. 31. The Humane Society of Northeast Texas will be there from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with several adorable pets available for adoption.

"Good homes are desperately needed for the more than 120 animals in our shelter," stated Roxanne Hutson, Executive Director. "Finding those good homes sometimes means taking our pets out to the public rather than waiting for the public to visit us. We appreciate Atwood's for making this possible."

More than 10,500 animals were received at the animal shelter in 2006. Sadly, only about 25% found new homes or were reunited with their owners. The rest -- over 8,000 -- were euthanized.

"People don't understand the tragic pet overpopulation problem or why spaying and neutering is so important until they hear those statistics," continued Hutson. "East Texans have got to become more responsible when it comes to animal welfare if we are to see significant increases in adoptions of pets and reductions in the number of animals we put to sleep."
