Trinity Episcopal Church will honor God's most vulnerable creatures with a Pet Blessing on Saturday, October 6th at 1:00 p.m. in the All Saints Garden on Padon Street in Longview. The public is invited to attend and bring their pets (all pets must be on a leash or contained in a crate or carrier). The Humane Society of Northeast Texas will also be on hand with shelter pets available for adoption and information about their services and programs. The service will include a brief liturgy followed by individual pet blessings and sprinkling with holy water. Each canine and feline will receive a special treat for attending.
Participants are asked to bring a bag of Purina Kitten Chow or Puppy Chow to be donated to the Humane Society.
St. Francis, a Medieval monk, had a love for all creatures great and small. Traditionally, the church has honored his memory with services of blessing for agricultural animals ranging from chickens to race horses. Today, many parishes in the Episcopal Church and other denominations honor their pets and St. Francis with a special liturgy and blessing once a year, usually around the beginning of October.
