| Press Release: Parvovirus at the Shelter January 12, 2010 | | Longview, TX – The Humane Society of Northeast Texas is urging the public who may be missing animals to contact us immediately in hopes of reuniting those lost pets with their families. As an open admission animal shelter, the Humane Society of Northeast Texas takes in animals from many cities, and in all conditions of health and wellness. As such, there are times when sick animals are brought to our shelter. Disease spreads quickly when so many animals are housed in one building. As a result, the Humane Society of Northeast Texas has experienced several cases of Canine Parvovirus recently and is relocating animals coming in to an off-site facility in order to spend necessary time to clean the shelter facility to prevent further spread of the Parvo virus. The Humane Society is also urging the public who may find stray animals to hold off, if at all possible, surrendering those animals to the Humane Society until Monday, January 19th. On Monday, the shelter will have been thoroughly and completely cleaned and all animals sent to the off-site facility will be returned to the shelter. If you would like to help, the Humane Society is also requesting donations of blankets, pet bedding, towels and washcloths, which will all have to be replaced due to the nature of Parvo virus and the strong desire to ensure the transmission of this disease is eradicated at the shelter.
For more information or to find out how you can volunteer or foster animals available for adoption, visit us at 303 Enterprise Street in Longview where we are open Monday through Saturday from 11:30am until 5:30pm, or visit our website at www.hsntx.org.
